Which won her the Pulitzer Prize in 1932 and Nobel Prize in Literature in 1938 (being the first American woman to do so). Churchill and Buck developed a correspondence and close friendship during his first prime ministership. Churchill likely signed the present image for Buck shortly after becoming prime minister a second time in October 1951. He too later won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1953 for his historical and biographical works. AND BOTH WERE WINNERS OF THE NOBEL PRIZE IN LITERATURE. Churchill used this photo during his election campaign in 1951. Vivienne was a leading society portrait photographer who began as an assistant to her husband Ernest and their son, Antony. Antony made a career photographing actors in Hollywood and later married Churchill’s daughter Sarah, an actress, in 1949. Both families became friends and Vivienne made many portraits of Churchill, of which the present is one of her most enduring images.
