Sir Arthur C. Clarke Inscribed Book Signed 05/31/1995

Hardcover without dust jacket. Signed on title page. Clarke is perhaps best known for 2001: A Space Odyssey. In 1964, the popular science fiction writer had been approached by director Stanley Kubrick, who wanted to make the proverbial good science fiction movie. Clark simultaneously wrote his novel, which spanned man’s exploration of his universe from the savannahs of Africa to the rings of Saturn, as Kubrick was creating the film. Both debuted in 1968. Besides his sequels to 2001, including this volume, Clarke has produced some of SF’s most celebrated novels, including Childhood’s End and Rendezvous with Rama, thought-provoking short stories like “The Nine Billion Names of God, ” and many essays. Born in 1917 and resident in Sri Lanka since 1946, Clarke has won two Hugo and one Nebula award, and shared an Oscar with Kubrick in 1968. He had some amazing stuff. This one is “Montaigne, ” by Nobel Prize-winning French writer Andre Gide, published in a limited edition of 800 (this being #309) by Horace Liveright/Blackmore Press, and signed nicely by the author, hardcover with jacket and a slipcase. Don’t see to many of these available that have both the slipcase and the jacket. Wonderful shape for the age. If you want it sent a different way, I’m willing but may have to charge a bit more. J. EDGAR HOOVER Autograph Signed Book + 1964 FBI Letter MASTERS OF DECEIT
Masters of Deceit: The Story of Communism in America and How to Fight It. New York: Holt, Rinehart and Winston, 1958. Eleventh printing, March 1962. Hardcover in original dust jacket. This copy is signed and inscribed by J. Edgar Hoover, longtime Director of the FBI. The inscription on the front free endpaper, dated 12/7/64, reads. Nash, Best wishes, J. Included with the book is a typed signed letter on FBI Director’s letterhead, dated December 4, 1964, addressed to the same recipient. In the letter, Hoover thanks Mrs. Nash for her support and confirms he has autographed her books. Letter is hand-signed by Hoover. Original FBI mailing envelope is also present.

Her poetry, which was first published in 1945, later focused on the African-American struggle for freedom. In 1968, Brooks was named Poet Laureate of Illinois, succeeding Carl Sandburg. Brooks had married poet and writer Henry Blakely in 1939, to whom she was wed until his death in 1996. A 1986 John Madden Signed “One Knee equals Two Feet” Autograph Book with one of the most Incredible Inscriptions I have ever seen on a book. The Inscription Reads To Jim Barrett, Your new replacement Knee equals two Feet. If you replace your other knee you will have Two more. With four feet you will be twice as fast as any of those yoyo’s you play tennis with. Good Luck, John Madden. It’s just an Incredible Inscription which Brings back memories of how only John Madden could talk lol. This Book has a tear in the dust jacket and some soiling mainly noticeable on the back dust jacket cover and is not in perfect condition but the Autograph page is Beautiful and overall is a nice solid book for being almost 40 years old and everything considered.
