THEODOR LESCHETIZKY – INSCRIBED AUTOGRAPH MUSICAL QUOTATION SIGNED 03/22/1864 CO-SIGNED BY: JULIUS SCHULHOFF – HFSID 29743. THEODOR LESCHETIZKY and JULIUS SCHULHOFF Each penned a lengthy musical quotation in Paris in 1864! Autograph Musical Quotation signed: Andante /[9 measures of music in both treble and bass clefs] / inscription in German, translated: for kind remembrance to Mr. Leschetizky/Paris 1864″, and on verso “Allegretto/ [16 measures of music for two instruments]/ Paris March 22 1864, 9½x6½. By age 18 he was a well-known virtuoso based in Vienna. He taught in Russia from 1862 to 1877, co-founding the St Petersburg Conservatory. He composed over 100 piano pieces, 2 operas, a piano concerto and 13 songs. In 1906 he made a dozen piano roll recordings, including 7 of his own compositions. His motto was, No art without life, no life without art. Encouraged by Chopin, he toured Europe to great acclaim. As a composer, Schulhoff is known for his piano solos, including a grand sonata, a 12 études, and various caprices, waltzes and mazurkas. Ink lightly bled through to verso. SEUSS He draws the Cat in the Hat and signs it for a fan on this FDC honoring Wildlife Concervation Inscribed Original Art Signed: To Gregg/ Dr. First Day Cover in the 1956 Conservation Series, 3-cent Wildlife Conservation stamp affixed, postmarked Gunnison, Colorado, June 22, 1956, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. Seuss, has drawn and colored in one of his most popular characters, The Cat in the Hat. Geisel had started a primary reader series with The Cat in the Hat (1957), published by his firm Beginner Books, which became a division of Random House in 1960. His first juvenile book, And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street (1937), written and illustrated by Geisel, was followed by such other favorites as Horton Hears a Who (1954, television 1970), How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1957, film 1966, new release in 2000) and Green Eggs and Ham (1960).
