LADY BIRD JOHNSON Shown posed in the White House Photo Mount inscribed and signed: “To Margaret Price – with my/appreciation and warm wishes/Lady Bird Johnson”, 1p, color, 11×14 overall, 7½x11 image (two surfaces). The First Lady of the 36th President Lyndon Johnson, Lady Bird is posed from the White House and has inscribed this image to Margaret Price who was on LBJ’s staff. As First Lady, she undertook the Beautification of America Program to clean-up and adorn America’s highways and civic areas. When she died on July 11, 2007, at age 94, Lady Bird Johnson had lived longer than any First Lady except Bess Truman, who survived to age 97. Some smudging of writing at last “n” of signature. Some wear at corners and lower edge has a light crease just touching the lower loop of the “J” in signature. On September 19, 2011, Mariano Rivera became the all time saves leader in Major League Baseball history, recording his 602nd career save, passing Trevor Hoffman for sole possession of first place. Rivera has led the majors 3 times in saves in 1999 (45) 2001 (50) and 2004 (53). Rivera is a five time World Series Champion and was awarded the 1999 WS MVP award and the 2003 ALCS MVP award. Illustrated Card Signed & Inscribed by Norman Rockwell. A card with a black-and-white printed picture of a sleeping boy with his dog, SIGNED and INSCRIBED by Norman Rockwell in blue pen. The card has the words “with very best wishes” printed on it, and Rockwell wrote around them as follows: To Mr. Sherburne // sincerely Norman Rockwell. The card measures about 3 7/8″ x 8 1/2″. It has been glued to a cardboard back measuring slightly less lengthwise. The item is suitable for framing and would look nice on the wall. Norman Rockwell (1894 – 1978) was an American painter and illustrator. His works have a broad popular appeal in the United States for their reflection of American culture. Rockwell is most famous for the cover illustrations of everyday life he created for The Saturday Evening Post magazine over nearly five decades. Among the best-known of Rockwell’s works are the Willie Gillis series, Rosie the Riveter, The Problem We All Live With, Saying Grace, and the Four Freedoms series. Rockwell was a prolific artist, producing more than 4,000 original works in his lifetime. Most of his surviving works are in public collections. Rockwell was also commissioned to illustrate more than 40 books, including Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. He painted portraits of Presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon, as well as those of foreign figures, including Gamal Abdel Nasser and Jawaharlal Nehru. One example of his more serious work is The Problem We All Live With, which dealt with the issue of school racial integration. The painting depicts a young black girl, Ruby Bridges, flanked by white federal marshals, walking to school past a wall defaced by racist graffiti. This 1964 painting was displayed in the White House when Bridges met with President Barack Obama in 2011. Our father was a bibliophile who collected rare books, letters, and ephemera for more than 60 years. For now and into the foreseeable future, we will be listing rare paper items from his estate.
