She has added a broomstick and witch’s hat to her signature, and penned a note on verso describing her make-up! A rare and unusual association with The Wizard of Oz! Photograph inscribed and signed: For Bobby -/with warmest wishes -/Margaret Hamilton/ She has drawn a witch’s hat and broomstick here. Shown as the Wicked Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz (1939). She has added an autograph note on verso: This is actually a make-up still. You can see the extra’rubber’ nose – on my nose – and the’other’ chin. Sorry the picture is so folded. She also played the foil for comedians such as W. Fields (My Little Chickadee , 1940) and Harold Lloyd (The Sin of Harold Diddleback , 1946). Her greatest moment in film, however, came in the dual roles of Elvira Gulch and The Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz. In reality a former schoolteacher who loved children, Hamilton appeared often on PBS’s Sesame Street and Mr. She again became familiar to American TV viewers as general store proprietor Cora in Maxwell House Coffee commercials of the 1970s.
