Unusual vintage circa 1935 glossy 8 x 10 portrait of Babe Ruth in his Yankee pinstripes, boldly signed and inscribed in fountain pen, To Martha MacDonald, Sincerely, Babe Ruth. Also signed by two noted actors, “Hello Martha, Al Jolson” and “To Marthawith grand admiration for Babe Ruth, John Barrymore, ” and one vaudeville comedienne, Best, Polly Moran. Babe Ruth, John Barrymore, and Polly Moran appeared as guests on Al Jolson’s’Shell Chateau’ NBC radio show on April 27, 1935. A fantastic and interesting piece, especially given Barrymore’s endorsement of’The Babe. Ruth retired from baseball following the 1935 season and was inducted into Cooperstown, Baseball Gall of Fame the following year in 1936. Coincidentally on April 27, 1947 (exactly 12 years later to the day), Ruth was honored and spoke at Yankee Stadium on Babe Ruth Day. Ruth passed away the following year in 1948.
