IGNACY JAN PADEREWSKI The composer pens four measures of one of his piano compositions, inscribing and dating it 1892 Inscribed Autograph Musical Quotation signed: Dr. Kimball/in kind remembrance/I J Paderewski, 7½x5 sheet (likely a letterhead) affixed to another sheet of the same size. Above his inscription and signature, Paderewski has written four bars of music, which he has titled: “Legende op 16″. To the left of his signature, Paderewski has written: Chicago/2 Jan. He wrote the piano piece Legende Op. 16 in 1888, and his other works include Minuet in G and the opera, Manru. The virtuoso pianist was also a philanthropist and Polish patriot. Paderewski interrupted his concert career in 1919 to serve as Prime Minister and Foreign Minister and in 1940 to serve as President of the Polish Parliament in exile in Paris.
