Fleet Admiral USN Chester Nimitz Signed Inscribed Photo Japan Surrender WWII. We hope you enjoy the photos and information presented herein. If you have any questions. For your consideration we have this authentic photo showing the September 2, 1948 Japanese surrender which ended the second world war. The authentic photo is signed by Chester W. Nimitz in two places, once near his hand, as he sits signing the instrument of surrender. The photo is inscribed to Sergeant Major Palmer H. Darrow of the United States Marine Corps. Darrow, a New York native, was a veteran who served the country from 1933 until 1969. He was awarded the combat action ribbon, and earned Korea and Vietnam service medals, among other honors. Approximate photo stock dimensions: 10.5 x 9.5. Actual image dimensions: 8.5 x 6.25. Frame: 21.5″ x 20.5″. The only flaw in the photo occurs well outside of the image itself: a small wrinkle on the bottom edge that extends inward, in a diagonal line. The photo is otherwise pristine, and has only been handled, many years ago, in order to encapuslate it within the glass and wood frame. It was recovered from the frame for an inspection by a qualified archivist, in order to inspect the paper stock quality and mount type. The photo is authentic, as it was originally distributed on behalf of the US government. Furthermore, it is not damaged by light or humidity, nor is it permanently mounted. If desired, it can easily be removed from the frame. There is no COA, and no accompanying letter or paperwork; we guarantee authenticity and offer the photo with a no-questions-asked return option. If you are not satisfied, we are not satisfied. See pictures to view the very same item you will receive. This historic photograph is immortalized by the great men who gave and received it. Chester William Nimitz, Sr. Was a fleet admiral of the United States Navy. He played a major role in the naval history of World War II as Commander in Chief, United States Pacific Fleet (CinCPac) and Commander in Chief, Pacific Ocean Areas (CinCPOA), commanding Allied air, land, and sea forces during World War II. Nimitz was the leading US Navy authority on submarines. Qualified in submarines during his early years, he later oversaw the conversion of these vessels’ propulsion from gasoline to diesel, and then later was key in acquiring approval to build the world’s first nuclear-powered submarine, USS Nautilus, whose propulsion system later completely superseded diesel-powered submarines in the US. He also, beginning in 1917, was the Navy’s leading developer of underway replenishment techniques, the tool which during the Pacific war would allow the US fleet to operate away from port almost indefinitely. The chief of the Navy’s Bureau of Navigation in 1939, Nimitz served as Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) from 1945 until 1947. He was the United States’ last surviving officer who served in the rank of fleet admiral. The Japanese Instrument of Surrender was the written agreement. That formalized the surrender of the Empire of Japan, marking the end of World War II. It was signed by representatives from the Empire of Japan, the United States of America, the Republic of China, [note 1] the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, the Commonwealth of Australia, the Dominion of Canada, the Provisional Government of the French Republic, the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and the Dominion of New Zealand. The signing took place on the deck of USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay on September 2, 1945. The date is sometimes known as Victory over Japan Day, although that designation more frequently refers to the date of Emperor Hirohito’s Gyokuon-hs (Imperial Rescript of Surrender), the radio broadcast announcement of the acceptance of the terms of the Potsdam Declaration at noon Japan Standard Time on August 15. _gsrx_vers_811 GS 7.0.9 (811).
